road island pterodactyl
everything is funnier when you’re drunk they say. I never wanted to be a believer of this statement because I’m not the type that needs a drink to have a good time. but this past weekend the husband and I were having a few drinks while watching King Kong when it hit me.
me: do you think King Kong has sex? but I don’t think there are any other giant apes on that island…
(thoughtful silence, the husband looks at me funny)
me: maybe he fucks the dinosaurs. you know, T-Rex, brontosaurus. maybe a pterodactyl every now and then.
(the husband starts to bust out laughing)
husband: I just had a mental image in my head…I just pictured King Kong fucking a pterodactyl and a T-Rex driving up in an old Cadillac convertible saying “hey, is that a rhode island pterodactyl??”
and that is when we couldn’t stop laughing, even when the thought of a hernia popped into my head.
if you couldn’t tell, Devils’ Rejects is one of our favourite movies. of course while I am typing this down it’s not half as funny as it was that night, and I’m thinking why the hell am I even typing this down? but watch this is you don’t even have a clue of what I’m talking about.

if it ain’t broke….
…then don’t fix it. well it has been broken many times and I have fixed it many times. this is my phone and it has been my phone for the past four years. it makes out calls, it receives in calls. and sometimes when I don’t feel like talking it sends and retrieves text messages for me. I don’t need to listen to music, I don’t need a camera, and I certainly don’t need to spend any more time on the web when I’m away from the computer. honestly, all of this new fangled technology makes feel lazier and lazier. we no longer take time out to write letters, we don’t travel to one another’s home to say hello and catch up with the times, and most of my friends don’t even read books anymore! I was at Wal-Mart last night and I saw a device that actually flicks dog treats into the air for you! if you’re that lazy then you don’t need to own a dog in the first place. to stop me from rambling, I’ll end with this. I love this phone and I will stick with this phone to it’s dying day.

Chinese New Year’s 2008
there was a Chinese New Year’s celebration on Buford Hwy this afternoon. I’ve never been to one before (yeah I know, I’m a bad Asian) so it was pretty exciting for me. I’ve never seen so many fire crackers before! and then the celebration continued into the market where they set off more fire crackers! who knew…

look at all of those fire crackers!

a few things…
thing number one
Saturday it snowed. seriously, it snowed!okay, so it wasn’t exactly a revival of the Blizzard of 93′ but it was our first snow in about two years. maybe three. back then we were lucky if we got sleet or an ice storm. but usually ice storms brought with it power outages. yes it is fun stabbing each other with icicles but when all the fun and games are over how are you gonna warm yourself up huh? you don’t have any power in your house! well of course you could always build a fire in a trashcan like the bums (heh heh heh bumfires). anyways….so the family and I packed up for a ride through town…starting at Krispy Kreme.

I could tell you about our trip up Peachtree Street but nothing interesting in particular happened. Baby was sleeping the entire time and I was munching on doughnuts. what joy
and thing number two
I trusted in Jason to color my hair. no worries, it came out quite alright. wait, should I be worried that Jason is capable of doing hair?

sushi time
my first time trying my hands at home made sushi.
ingredients:
short grain rice
rice vinegar
salt
sugar
seaweed paper
carrots
cucumber
imitation crab sticks
all purchased from the local Wal-Mart (who knew?)
I followed Alton Brown’s recipe for sushi rice (he is my fave foodnetwork star):
2 cups sushi or short grain rice
2 cups water, plus extra for rinsing rice
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon kosher salt
Place the rice into a mixing bowl and cover with cool water. Swirl the rice in the water, pour off and repeat 2 to 3 times or until the water is clear.
Place the rice and 2 cups of water into a medium saucepan and place over high heat. Bring to a boil, uncovered. Once it begins to boil, reduce the heat to the lowest setting and cover. Cook for 15 minutes. Remove from the heat and let stand, covered, for 10 minutes.
Combine the rice vinegar, sugar and salt in a small bowl and heat in the microwave on high for 30 to 45 seconds. Transfer the rice into a large wooden or glass mixing bowl and add the vinegar mixture. Fold thoroughly to combine and coat each grain of rice with the mixture. Allow to cool to room temperature before using to make sushi or sashimi.
I didn’t have a rolling mat so I used plastic wrap which turned out better than I had imagined. but I didn’t have a sharp enough knife so I kinda squished the roll as I was slicing it. but at the end it’s was mucho delicioso!

safe journey old friend…
9:20am this morning she boarded her plane towards the Big Apple. off to start a new career and to be with the one she loves. she has been with me through thick and thin and she stuck with me when everyone else turned their back on me. she always managed to make me laugh. she was always there for me to cry on. and she was always there to have a drink.
jackie.
my best friend.
farewell and safe journey.

Oh, it must be Halloween…
this Halloween didn’t really feel like Halloween at all. maybe because it snuck up on me and bit me in the arse. I didn’t have much planned, with this being my first Halloween as a mommy and all. little Ian was too young to take out trick-or-treating so we just stayed home and gave out candy. it played Halloween on AMC all day. I wish they had chose to play Hellrasier all day instead, at least that film scared the shit out of me. or Nightmare on Elm Street. Halloween doesn’t even make me laugh. now if a horror movie doesn’t scare me or make me laugh, then it’s gotta suck. anyways…I’m out of stuff to say.
I like wasabi peas. the end.

food you can wear
I made these today. not because I was very hungry and had nothing in my fridge, because I’m going to take my products down to the flea market and sell them.
