Oot and Aboot
July 14, 2007
finally a day out! the family and I went up to Dahlonega (north Georgia) for a day of gold and gemstone mining.

first we start with a bucket of dirt…

then we move to the sifter…

and viola! rocks.

then we visited Boggs Creek for some REAL gold mining…

…and as you can see we found none, but we did find Solomon the salamander!

Ooohh, that’s so neat! I don’t think I know anyone who’s done that… but someone once brought me back a chunk of amethyst from Tennessee because it’s my birthstone lol. Super cool.
Are you keeping Solomon? LOL

unfortunately we did not keep Solomon
we found a bunch of gems but I can’t tell what they are. I think I found a ruby, but not quite sure yet.

Aww Solomon is cute! Too bad you couldn’t keep him.
Maybe Tamara knows about the gems?
And great pictures of course

That looks like that phony sort of mining where they just put a few rocks in some dirt and let you rinse them off. :p
I’ve actually tried pan mining at a river before, but I couldn’t come up with anything. I guess after the gold rush, there’s not much left in California.

yes Mark, it was the phoney kind of mining. but it was fun for the kids (boy am I a family person now or what?) but Jasona nd I bought pans and went to Boggs Creek to look for gold…we found none
instead we found the salamander. but we’re still researching on where to find the good stuff, apparently Dahlonega was the site for the first gold rush, before the california gold rush.
